About this Artwork
Patrick Lajoie’s ‘Halftone’ series is created with four separate prints on plexiglass, layered and spaced apart, with each layer being a colour separation of one of the four CMYK colours (cyan, magenta, yellow and key black). Viewed from close proximity the image appears as a grid of overlapping coloured dots but once one stands further away and directly in front of it the image comes into focus as the four colours and dots coalesce. Because of the space between the layers, as one moves either left or right of its centre the colour separations become increasingly visible and the image seems to change, creating the illusion of fluidity and movement from a still image.
